Cefsulodin Sodium Salt is a cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefsulodin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This disruption interferes with the final stages of peptidoglycan synthesis in the bacterial cell wall, leading to structural instability and eventual cell lysis.
Effective against a range of Gram-negative bacteria, it is particularly useful in the isolation and selection of these bacteria in microbiological and research settings. Commonly used in culture media for the growth and identification of specific bacterial strains.
Additionally, it is often employed as a selective agent in culture media to isolate bacteria that are sensitive to this antibiotic. Its inclusion allows for the specific growth of Gram-negative bacteria lacking resistance to cefsulodin.
